What is permanent make up?
Permanent cosmetic makeup is cosmetic tattooing. The specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as “micropigmentation”. The cosmetic implantation technique deposits colored pigment into the upper reticular layer of the dermis.
How is the procedure performed?
Permanent cosmetics procedures are performed using various devices, including the traditional tattoo coil machines, the pen or rotary machine (I use a rotary machine) and the non-machine or hand device. The process includes a consultation, the application of pigment, and at least one or more follow up visits for evaluating the healed design work and color of the pigment. Before you begin your treatment it will start with a discussion of the shape and color of your preference. The unique bone structure and contours of your face will play a significant part in the look and shape of your brows. I believe that no two set of brows are alike and the best brows come from following what is already naturally there. Even if you don’t have much hair to follow, your bone structure and eyes will tell where your brows should be. After you have approved the shape of your choice, color is carefully selected to match your natural skin tone and hair color.
How long is the procedure?
The initial procedure will generally take approximately 2 to 2 ½ hours; there are records to establish; photographs to take; desired design and color to discuss; the procedure to perform; and the aftercare requirements to discuss. It is a step by step, hair by hair process. You won’t leave here until they are perfect! Follow up or color refresher procedures usually do not require the same amount of time.
How long does it last?
Most colors last 3 to 5 years, although some may not fade for as long as 10 years. Periodic touch-ups are recommended to maintain the desired look. Longevity varies from person to person depending on their life style (sun exposure), the color(s) used for the permanent cosmetic procedure, and are also thought to be affected by topical products applied to the skin. Having a touch up will enhance any area that has faded too much. It is important to realize that you will need a color boost every 1-3 years to maintain it’s fresh natural appearance.
How long is the healing process?
It is normal to experience some swelling and tenderness following your procedure. This will subside after a few hours. Immediately following your treatment the pigment will appear darker and more intense than how it will actually heal. It may take you a few days to get use to these new eyebrows on your face because they do make such a significant difference. No worries though, after a few days, the surface color naturally exfoliates to leave a softer look. That is why a perfecting visit is necessary in order to achieve that richness of color.
